INAUGURATION OF MALAYALAM ASSOCIATION
The Malayalam Department of Government College of Teacher Education (Thiruvananthapuram) inaugurated its Malayalam Association along with a
tribute to M.T. The event was inaugurated by Dr. M. Satyan, Director of the Kerala State
Institute of Languages. The inauguration was held on August 13, the birth
anniversary of renowned writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair. The formal ceremony
began with a prayer song by Suhana Jalil, a first-year B.Ed. student. Dr. Rajani, a
faculty member of the Malayalam Department, delivered the welcome
address. Dr. Shaiba, IQAC Coordinator and a faculty member in the Sanskrit
Department, presided over the function. Dr. M. Satyan lit the ceremonial lamp,
officially inaugurating the event, and then addressed the students. He shared
memories from his own days as a teacher-trainee and emphasized the significance and dignity of the teaching profession.
Following this, the name of the Malayalam Association, “Ochha” (meaning “Voice”), was announced, and
its logo was unveiled. The naming ceremony adopted a unique approach:
students were guided to call out the name collectively, symbolizing unity and participation. The word “Ochha” signifies the association’s commitment to becoming the voice for those marginalized and victimized
in society.

faculty member of the Social Science Department; Hickey Teacher, faculty member of the Hindi Department; and Mayura M.M., a second-year M.Ed. student. Sreenath R.K., Secretary of the Malayalam Department, delivered the vote of thanks.
As part of the association’s cultural program, poetry recitation and renditions of
songs from M.T.’s films were performed. Adrija I kumar. and Sneha, first-year B.Ed. students, sang film songs, while Aasha Ashok Kumar R. recited a poem.
Under the association’s leadership, various competitions were organized. These included a puzzle competition based on
M.T.’s portrait and a quiz in which participants had to identify Malayalam book titles based on given clues. Dr. M. Satyan, the guest of honour, presented prizes to the winners.
The program was successfully conducted, marked by enthusiastic student participation and excellent time management.
