INAUGURATION OF MATHEMATICS ASSOCIATION AND MATHS CLUB


The inauguration of the Mathematics Association and Mathematics Club at Government College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram, was held on August 29, 2025, in the General Hall at 9:30 AM. The event showcased an inspiring gathering of faculty, students, and a distinguished chief guest, focusing on fostering mathematical enthusiasm and academic engagement within the college community.

The ceremony began with a prayer by Sneha S., a first-year B.Ed. student, setting a thoughtful and respectful tone for the proceedings. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Sreeja S. R., Assistant Professor in Mathematics, who warmly greeted all attendees and emphasized the significance of creating a vibrant academic environment for budding teachers.

Prof. (Dr.) A. V. Sujith, Principal of GCTE, delivered the Presidential Address. The principal highlighted the unique value of mathematics in educational practice, underlining the college's commitment to fostering critical thinking and analytical skills through such associations. 

This was followed by the official inauguration by Dr. E. Krishnan, Head of the Department of Mathematics at University College, Thiruvananthapuram. He inaugurated the Mathematics association -'MATHAMAGIC' by lighting the traditional lamp, at the same time students of mathematics department sang the 'Ganitha Prathana'. 

Dr. Krishnan’s remarks focused on the transformative power of mathematics, encouraging students to actively participate in mathematical endeavors and develop problem-solving aptitudes that serve them both professionally and personally.

The guests of honor included Prof. (Dr.) Anju I., Vice Principal of GCTE, and Dr. Usha Rani K., Assistant Professor in Social Science, who each offered felicitations. Both speakers recognized the efforts behind organizing the event and called for sustained initiatives to promote mathematics club activities. 

The event culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Akhila M. Nair, a first-year B.Ed. student, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, organizers, faculty, and students whose contributions made the function successful. The inauguration was marked by enthusiastic participation and successfully laid the foundation for a series of mathematics-related activities that are expected to enrich the academic life of student teachers in the college.
The Mathematics Association and Club are set to become platforms for collaborative learning, interactive problem-solving, and the development of a supportive mathematical community at Government College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram
