Our country celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great pride on 15th August 2025. As part of this national celebration, the Government College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram, thaicaud, also organized a vibrant programme at 8:30 a.m.

The celebrations began with a march-past performed by the students under the leadership of Shivaprasad P. S., Physical Science Department, and coordinated by Dr. Arun S. S. Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Physical Education. A large number of students actively participated in the march-past, showcasing patriotism and unity.

Following this, our national flag was hosted by our beloved Principal, Prof. Dr. A. V. Sujith. A patriotic song was also presented during the flag hosting ceremony, adding solemnity to the moment.

The official functions were held in General Hall 1 and were organized by the students. The programme began with a prayer led by Anjali, a 2nd year M.Ed student. After the prayer, Arun S. V. delivered the welcome address.

The inauguration and main message were delivered by our Principal, Prof. Dr. A. V. Sujith. His address highlighted the theme of unity and peace, and he stressed the importance of including more details about the freedom struggle in textbooks—details that have gradually been forgotten from history. He also reminded the teaching community of their responsibility in shaping how students understand the concepts of freedom and independence.

This was followed by greetings from our Vice Principal, Prof. Dr. Anju I., who reminded everyone of how individuals can realize their values through love, compassion, and community.

Next, Mrs. Bima Arshad, a 1st year Geography student, proposed the vote of thanks.

Competitions were then conducted as part of the celebration, including National Anthem and Patriotic Song competitions. The events were evaluated by our Music teacher, Dr. Kavitha, and Philosophy teacher, Dr. Shiji.

The National Anthem competition was held first. A total of seven groups participated.

Chest No. 103 and 104, led by Akhila (1st year) and Adhrija (1st & 2nd year), secured places in the National Anthem competition.

In the Patriotic Song competition, Chest No. 102 led by Sneha won 1st place, and Chest No. 104 led by Adhrija won 2nd place.
