Teachers’ Day and National Education Day Celebration

The Government College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram, organized the Teachers’ Day and National Education Day celebration on 11 November 2025 under the joint initiative of IQAC and the College Union, JWALA 2025–26. Held in General Hall 1 at 9.30 a.m., the programme brought together teachers, students, and guests to honour the teaching profession and to commemorate the contributions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister. Celebrating these two occasions together added a deeper academic significance to the event.

The programme began with a serene prayer led by Sneha S, a first-year B.Ed. student, which set a reflective and respectful tone for the gathering. Dr. Shiba T.C., the Vice Principal, extended a warm welcome and highlighted the noble role played by teachers in shaping future generations. The Principal, Prof. (Dr.) A.V. Sujith, delivered the presidential address, in which he emphasized the values, responsibilities, and ethical commitment associated with the teaching profession.

The function was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. K. Jacob Mathew, former Principal of GCTE. In his inspiring address, he spoke about the evolving nature of education, the legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and the importance of progressive and learner-centred teaching. His words reminded the student-teachers of their crucial role in contributing to a more equitable and enlightened society.

Faculty members including Dr. Rajasree K, Dr. Rahul V.R., and Dr. S. Kumar offered their felicitations, underscoring the relevance of teacher education in contemporary times. Students from both B.Ed. and M.Ed. programmes also shared their reflections, which added enthusiasm and a sense of ownership to the event.

The ceremony concluded with a sincere Vote of Thanks delivered by Sooryajith Sathyan, the College Union Chairperson, who gratefully acknowledged the efforts of the organizers, faculty, and students. The event was well coordinated and served as a meaningful learning experience for B.Ed. trainees.

Overall, the celebration reinforced the significance of teachers in nation-building and highlighted the value of quality education. For the student-teachers, the programme was not only inspirational but also a reminder of their future responsibilities as educators committed to social progress and academic excellence.
